Maintenance Assessments

PEME works with you to conduct a maintenance assessment of your current plant maintenance practices.

Conducting a maintenance assessment enables you to identify continuous improvement opportunities and formulate a prioritised improvement plan. This leads to real improvement in the productivity and profitability of your plant.

The purpose of the maintenance assessment is to:

  • Establish existing preventive maintenance arrangements.
  • Review existing processes for defining preventive maintenance (e.g. Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM)).
  • Establish the factors that will influence a preventive maintenance improvement initiative.
  • Provide a through-life strategy for preventive maintenance management within your plant.

The key activities are, as follows:

  • Establish and review:
    • Existing preventive maintenance tasks and task intervals.
    • Current Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) techniques in-use.
    • How existing maintenance candidates are identified.
    • How maintenance task definition is currently conducted.
    • Whether existing plant maintenance task descriptions are unambiguous, quantitative and provide the engineer with relevant information such as limits and access requirements.
    • Lessons-learnt from any previous reliability improvement initiatives.
    • Available data inputs (e.g. CMMS extracts, asset lists, work cards, failure data, manufacturer manuals, drawings, etc.).
    • Available resources (e.g. experienced on-site engineers with local knowledge).
    • Improvement initiative ‘purpose’ definition (What do you want to achieve?).
    • Required deliverables (output) and format (e.g. task details for CMMS population).
    • Organisation engineering structure.
    • Any other site improvement initiatives that may impact a reliability improvement initiative.
    • Any conflicts, risks or potential duplication of effort.
    • Identify:
      • If a more appropriate candidate criticality and analysis approach is required.
      • Potential reliability improvement opportunities.
      • Plant specific future preventive maintenance management strategy.

The PEME maintenance assessment promotes engineering asset management good practice and helps you to achieve real-world reliability improvements.
