Anna Walker (PEME 2011 Apprentice of the year) has been given the opportunity to be a mechanic for CTR Racing during the 2012 season and is providing a diary as the season unfolds.
“My first race meeting of the year was at Snetterton. CTR had arranged to attend this meeting as a shakedown test for the sidecar and new engines prior to the first round of the Eastern Airways British Championship race meeting at Brands Hatch at Easter.
For this meeting CTR had a Pit lane garage that was shared with a top F2 team (Team Dave Huspeth Carpets NCR) whose driver, Tim Reeves, is 3 times F1 world champion and current British F1 Champion. Passenger Dipash Chauhan is current F2 British Champion. The F2 team were competing in the British F2 championship and also testing for this year’s TT.
On my arrival I was introduced to the teams and everyone in the garage made me feel very welcome, even though it was very busy with each team having 4 races a day. During the weekend the team tested various components, systems and settings. The clutch and gear change were found to have niggling problems that were fixed during the weekend. I learnt about assembling and maintaining the sidecar and how the team works. I really enjoyed myself and started to feel comfortable around the paddock”.
