Water Plant Installation

PEME has successfully completed the installation of a water treatment Plant on behalf of the UK’s largest water and sewage company working in partnership with a major supplier of economic, efficient and environmentally friendly water treatment technologies.

The owners of the water treatment Plant are engaged in a continuous improvement program to meet increasing customer demand for better quality water and to meet increasingly more stringent EU Regulations such as the Drinking Water Directive (80/778/EEC), its revision (98/83/EC) and the Nitrates Directive (91/676/EEC).

The plant owners commissioned our client to design and manufacture a de-nitrate process plant and as they have used PEME for the installation of their water treatment Plants for the past 4 years, they in-turn contracted PEME with the Mechanical Installations and Industrial Electrical Installations.

This project included the off-loading and siting of the following items:

  • Regen skid
  • Pre-filter skid
  • Anion unit skid
  • Treated water pump skid
  • Instrument air package
  • Quality sample instrumentation board

The skids were delivered to site on an articulated lorry and were lifted with a mobile crane to the entrance of the new building. From there the PEME mechanical engineers used a combination of winches and jacks to position the skids onto their respective plinths. The skids were then fixed with chemical fixings. The interconnecting ABS and stainless steel pipework and supporting frameworks were then installed and tested to the client-specified standards.

The electrical installation was completed using steel wire armoured cable on heavy duty cable tray and the whole installation was tested to BS7671 standards.

The installation was project managed by a third party project management company. All Risk Assessment, Method Statement (RAMS), associated documentation and qualifications were proven before any work was carried out on site. Regular safety audits were conducted by both the PEME and client safety teams. All staff employed on site had to carry ECITB Safety Passport, client Safety Passport and National Water Hygiene cards.

PEME completed the project both mechanically and electrically from off-loading the equipment to hand-over to the Plant owner and the outcome is that the water company now provides better quality water to their clients.
