At the start of the year, PEME’s receptionist, Claire Garfield, was challenged by a colleague to enter the Perkins Great Eastern Half Marathon after bragging that she was far fitter than him and could beat him in a race any day.
The event takes place on Sunday 11 October starting on the Embankment then through the streets of Peterborough and hopefully, finishing back on the Embankment.
Claire said “Having never really been a long distance runner, I knew this was going to be a tough challenge but my training is going very well and in fact I have already managed to hit 13.4 miles, so now it’s just a case of building on it to make sure I cross the finish line first.”
Claire went on to say “As this is such a challenge for me, I decided I didn’t want to just do this for me alone, so I have decided to do this for Ovarian Cancer Action as I have a friend ‘Maria’ who is a similar age to me with a young family that is battling this awful disease. My aim is to raise £1,000 to help make a difference to those suffering like Maria. The aches and pains I get from running are nothing to what Maria faces everyday and she always keeps smiling; such a very brave lady.”
Please take a look at my Just Giving Page and take a few minutes to read Maria’s story and please make a donation.
