First ‘Near Miss’ Award

The PEME team at Tate and Lyle have always been recognised by our client for being proactive in dealing with any safety issues that they see during their working day. This has resulted in improvements throughout the workplace and contributed to the site being accident free for two years.

Realising the benefits that a proactive Safety approach brings, PEME has introduced a company-wide internal safety award for those people that go that little bit further to make the workplace safer for themselves, the client and other contractors.

Andre Fourie, PEME Charge Hand at Tate and Lyle, is the first recipient of this new award for his work in the packing area, where his prompt action in dealing with a significant water leak and stopping it entering an electrical panel avoided a potentially unsafe condition which could have endangered people and production. The picture shows Andre receiving a £50 Amazon voucher from Managing Director Ashley Maile.

Managing Director Ashley Maile said “we know the calibre of the people we employ and we know they are doing good safety work which wasn’t necessarily being recognised or was going unnoticed. As a Company, it’s always a pleasure to reward those people, like Andre, who go out of their way to make the workplace safer for others”.
