Reliability Operations Manager, Danny Watt, is no stranger to Asset Care challenges posed by our clients looking for PEME to facilitate productivity improvement. But this was his view from his seat in an off-roader as he attempted to find various pumps located across a quarry of one of our manufacturing clients.
Danny was leading a Maintenance Improvement project and one of the first activities of our Asset Care Strategy is ‘Asset configuration and control’ which involves establishing an updated Asset List that reflects the assets actually in the Plant and agreeing a naming and numbering convention. In this case, pumps are used to feed various production assets or transfer water and are dispersed across the quarry. The pumps have a critical function and can display degradation before breakdown and benefit from Preventive Maintenance so they need to be captured in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Danny said “Searching for these assets was like a scene from ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ but we found them and have now got them under control and ensured they are covered by an appropriate asset care regime.”
