PEME sponsored the Maintenance Team Award at the recent Works Management Manufacturing Champions and our MD, Ashley Maile, is shown with the winning team from Siemens of Congleton having presented them with the award.
Ashley was also a member of the awards judging panel, consisting of industry experts in disciplines such as maintenance, health and safety, lean manufacturing, etc. and senior site managers who know what it takes to run a successful factory. The judging panel assessed qualifying entries which had been down-selected by the Work’s Management expert editorial team. The judges marked entrants on four core attributes that make a manufacturing champion; outstanding performance; teamwork and leadership; flair and invention and finally, added value.
Productivity increases and quality improvements were delivered by the Siemens maintenance team at their Congleton site. Amongst several improvement initiatives they implemented maintenance activities which included the commitment of involving operators in total productive maintenance activities. They also implemented a system for identifying issues relating to equipment breakdowns and pin-pointing their root causes. What made the team really stand-out was its engagement with operations to help fix minor issues. This close relationship has fostered trust between technical and production staff.
Following the awards ceremony, Ashley said “The Siemens maintenance team have implemented several initiatives which are very close to our hearts within PEME. Identifying the top losses and use of a Root Cause Analysis methodology to analyse them down to the root cause, so the failure can be engineered-out and repeat failures not suffered, is a fundamental element of the Asset Care Strategy we follow. This team demonstrated some very good maintenance practises and I was delighted to present them with the award”.
