Manufacturing Champions Winner

PEME’s Fanie Blignaut was presented with the Works Management magazine’s Unsung Hero award at this year’s Manufacturing Champions by the BBC’s Steph McGovern. The Unsung Hero award is presented to the employee who goes above and beyond expectations to support site success.

Fanie was competing against outstanding individuals from blue-chip manufacturers such as Weetabix, Delarue Currency, Schaeffler UK and Sony UK Technology Centre

The Judges commented “Fanie really went the extra mile to support the company and those working within it. He supports the team leaders on top of his day job, which is the very definition of an Unsung Hero.  It’s fantastic to see. His enthusiasm to the job is to be admired. We were very impressed. A worthy winner.”

At a gala lunch on 8th December 2016, ten categories were awarded, celebrating the best of UK manufacturing best practice. The Manufacturing Champions Awards aim to shine a light on the men and women whose pride and professionalism helps British factories take on the world.

Winners demonstrated outstanding performance, innovation, teamwork and a track record in adding value to customers. Manufacturing Champions also aims to showcase the exciting and dynamic career opportunities on offer in UK manufacturing and challenge the myth of manufacturing as a career backwater.

In a very strong field, PEME was also short-listed in 3 other categories as follows:

  • RISING STAR: MANAGER/TECHNICIAN – Lucy Fitch – Engineering Team Leader
  • MAINTENANCE TEAM – Led by James Maile – Engineering Team Leader
  • SAFE WORKPLACE CHAMPION – Richard Rollings – Operations Manager
