Martyn Coultas, PEME Civil Engineering Supervisor at Mars Petcare, Melton Mowbray has raised more Safety Near Misses than anyone else in the business over the last reporting period. All Near Miss reports have been relevant and had the potential to cause injury or damage.
Over the last few years, PEME’s accident rate has continuously improved as a result of various safety initiatives and improvements in the way we approach our tasks and the Safety Training we give our people. Our current emphasis is to highlight the conditions that cause accidents and one of the ways we are achieving this is by pro-actively encouraging the raising of Near Miss reports by our staff.
The last nine months, has seen an increase in our Near Miss reporting by approximately 90%. This has highlighted some major safety issues to our clients that have almost certainly prevented significant incidents from occurring on their sites. These Near Miss reports are handled in a structured way, with steps taken immediately to make the situation being reported safe, followed by long-term solutions which provide a permanent fix.
For his valiant efforts, persistence and support to this PEME safety campaign, Martyn is shown receiving a special recognition safety award from Michael Edwards, PEME Health, Safety and Environmental Officer.
