Laurie-ann Smith presented at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Apprenticeship Networking on Wednesday 15 February, at the IET Head Office, Savoy Place, London. This was the first event of its type hosted by the IET.
The IET are starting a new campaign to encourage more technicians to become members. There are currently more than 150,000 members of the IET but only 5,000 members are technicians.
The speakers on the day were from; GCHQ, National Apprenticeship Service, IET, The Technician Council, Cisco and Partnership Development Solutions. There was a wide range of organisations and companies represented at the event including the Science and Engineering Manager from the Gatsby Charity Foundation.
The main discussion throughout the day was about how to get information about apprenticeships into schools at the right time and getting more companies involved in engineering apprenticeship schemes.
Laurie-ann’s presentation covered her experiences of the PEME Apprentice Scheme and was well received by delegates taking part in the event.
