PEME Mechanical Apprentice, Ryan Meierhofer has reached the final of this year’s Manufacturing Champions Awards in the Apprentice Rising Star category. He received strong support for his nomination from PEME colleagues and client site management.
Ryan is in the second year of his mechanical apprenticeship and has so far been employed at two of PEME’s Asset Care sites; in the food and chemical sector. This has provided Plant Maintenance work experience opportunities covering many assets, operating contexts and failure modes. This ‘learning by experience’ compliments the college-based learning that forms part of his apprenticeship. He helps deliver an appropriate maintenance regime covering: Preventive Maintenance routines including lubrications; corrective maintenance; fault investigation and rectification following a breakdown.
A key factor in Ryan’s success has been his willingness to ‘roll-up his sleeves’ to learn new skills at the same time as getting the job done and making a productive contribution to his team’s tasking. Ryan has gained respect as a team member and has formed a relationship that allows him to confidently exchange ideas and opinions with his more experienced team members. Guidance from his team leader and his raw talent has generated several continuous improvement ideas to gain equipment efficiency.
Ryan loves engineering and has the ability to spot improvement opportunities and do something about them. He tactfully challenges the ‘norm’ when he sees a better way.
Ryan is no stranger to an award having won the 2016 PEME Apprentice of the Year Award.
