The major contribution that PEME Stalwart, Richard ‘Wiggy’ Rollings, makes, on a daily basis, to look after the people who work with him and to keep them safe from harm, has been recognised with a short-listing for this year’s Manufacturing Champions Safe Workplace Champion Award.
This award celebrates the employee who embodies the ‘safety above all else’ ethic that is a cornerstone of world-class manufacturing standards. From proactively risk-assessing and counteracting potential shop floor hazards from slips, trips, falls or working at height to leading the cultural buy-in essential to getting everybody to wear the correct PPE. The judges are looking for an individual that is passionate about ensuring colleagues go home safe at the end of their shift.
Richards’s role is to manage large engineering projects on behalf of manufacturers and ensures compliance with relevant safety, engineering and environmental standards. He drives safety improvement within a project from start-to-finish. Richard is also responsible for the coaching of 26 young engineers and makes sure they develop a safety culture at the start of their careers.
He has been nominated for this award because he makes 2 major contributions to safety in factories:
- Firstly, in delivering installation and dilapidation projects, Richard pro-actively addresses the safety of his co-workers and consistently maintains safety standards on his sites
- Secondly, in leading engineering compliance projects he facilitates a step-change in safety on behalf of our manufacturer clients by conducting risk-assessments, identifying shortfalls and hazards, then leading project teams to conduct the remedial recommendations to bring the production assets up to an acceptable standard of compliance. This work removes risk to manufacturing operatives and maintainers and leads to significantly safer workplaces.
