Mike Potts of PEME has been nominated for and awarded a safety award by Tate & Lyle for the speed he identified a fault with a centrifugal machine and took action to ensure there were no significant consequences. Mike is part of our on-site Plant Maintenance team in East London.
He was in the process of carrying out a weekly Preventive Maintenance Work Order on the effected machine and during this directed inspection discovered what he later said was “an unusual noise”. Mike immediately asked for permission to take this machine out-of-service to carry out a fuller investigation. During this deeper investigation it was found that machine components needed immediate replacement.
Mike received this award for displaying the right behaviour in taking the initiative to investigate the machine there-and-then rather than returning to service and then reporting. This demonstrates the benefit of having trained and competent engineers with Plant knowledge and the right attitude in preventing what could have been a serious failure.
PEME Operations Manager for this site, Fanie Blignaut, said “Michael is no stranger to client awards; he was recently presented with a Quality Award by our client for his exemplary attitude and behaviour. His actions make a difference to our customer and adds value to our contracted service”.
